14 September Digging into Gardeniser (Gardeniser training and licence)
Gardeniser is an EU-funded project to develop continuous learning for people in cities around Europe while also providing professional recognition for work in community projects such as city farms and community gardens.
A Gardeniser (garden-organiser) works with people in a community or urban garden. The role requires both practical gardening skills, as well as the ability to support volunteers and staff. A Gardeniser amplifies the work that gardens and farms do through good communication, mediation, organisation and management. The benefits of Gardeniser training for city farms:
- Tips, tricks and best practices on designing and operating kid-friendly spaces
- Best practices and resources, such as getting the necessary licences and permits from local authorities
- Proven models for operating a social enterprise, including recruiting volunteers, forming partnerships with donors and working with local businesses

12 October: Donkeys at Work
Most city farms have one or two donkeys, some even have a mule. They are mostly used for therapy, for walks. During open days donkey rides and drives are very popular and these can bring in extra money. Working with animals also brings forward questions by visitors. As many city farms are more or less agricultural projects with land, orchards, fields or gardens and where produce may be sold in the farm shop, it would make sense to also put donkeys at work in this area. There are many advantages to a donkey, among others: donkeys don’t disturb the soil and they produce good fertilizer.
